I would always prefer to write about amusing incidents, ridiculous imaginings and carefree adventures. Life is just not like that so when 1 am sad 1 talk about it.
Another friend is gone. A victim of a hereditary illness, drug addiction.
We, who have played some part in the struggle to help him, are especially grieving, with his family, at this tragic loss.
1 am going to speak to this sad event generally, not about Adam but about all Adams, or Roberts, or Larrys or Marys.
To set the mood, here is a quote from a speech made by Lincoln in 1H42 to a temperance group.
‘‘In my judgement, such of us as have never fallen victims, have been spared more from the absence of appetite, than from any mental or moral supperiority over those who have. Indeed, I believe, if we take drug addicts — as a class, their heads and their hearts will bear an advantageous comparison with those of any other class. There seems ever to have been a proneness in the brilliant, and the warm blooded, to fall into this vice.
