Stone fences in Rappahannock County arc truly works of art. From the dry-laid fences carefully constructed so many years ago to the more formed fences laid with cement, these fences are beautiful to see snaking along the edges of the fields. The most unusual stone fence might be at Black Rock Farm near Huntly. Stone fences in the town of Washington seemed to attract lots of sitters and mid-day conversationalists.
Corn is at its most attractive this week. Looking erect, with tassels flying in the breeze, there is a certain military quality to the lines of stalks, like soldiers standing at attention.
Streams in Rappahannock have wonderful names. Most curious about who was the big Indian who offered his particular persona to Big Indian Stream in Huntly.
Evening mist over the mountains is almost surrealistic. Like something out of a fairy tale, at night everything within range of the mountains seems eerily changed and unfamiliar.
