Fine furniture

Middle Street Gallery is currently hosting it’s second annual “The Wood Show," a juried and judged exhibition of fine furniture and artworks made primarily of wood. The exhibition covers a wide range of wood objects and styles from a traditional corner cabinet to a modem folding chair and table set, as well as wooden bowls, hand tools, and Russian collectables.
Many of the participants are local woodworkers and artist/craftpersons with shops and studios nearby, and to make it more cosmopolitan a few out of staters are represented.
Judged best in show by Juror William Hammersley chair and head of Woodworking at the Virginia Commonwealth University are:
First Place, Dennis Elliot from Sherman, Conn, for a Wall Sculpture of big leaf maple burl, ebony and metal
• Second Place, Stephen La Drew from Reliance, Va. for a Vertebral Chair made of Lacewood and Paduak
• Third Place, Ed Luebke of Washington, Va. for a Comer Cupboard made of Cherry and Walnut
• Honorable Mention, Peter Exton from Herndon for a Winged Flame Stand made of Walnut.
Middle Street Gallery is a non-profit artist’s cooperative, located in Washington, Va. The Gallery i* open 11 a. m. to 6 pm. Friday through Sunday.
