Thirty-nine companies have announced plans to build new facilities or expanded existing operations. This represents a known capital investment of $161 million, up 80 percent from the second quarter of 1991.

Cathleen A. Magennis, secretary of Economic Development, welcomed the new information. She said, "These figures signify that positive growth is occurring in the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors of Virginia’s economy.”

Seventy-five percent of this employment activity in the second quarter is attributed to the nonmanufacturing sectors, that is, finance, insurance, distribution and headquarters facilities.

Northern Virginia Region

Xerox Corp. will make a $17 million dollar investment in the building of a new training facility in Loudoun County. Other expansions include a trade association facility and the Nissan Motor Corporation’s new regional office.

These facilities will create another 166 new jobs and add an additional investment of $6.3 million to the reirion.
