"Plus you must be careful at looking at one month’s figures,” he added. "You must look at the long term trend to make any significant observations.”
Schultz also pointed out that the higher the labor force, the higher the unemployment rate. Rappahannock’s labor force jUmped to 4,013 in June, the highest that it has been for 13 months. “You must remember that the labor force increasing for just one month doesn’t really mean anything,” he said. “If its up for one month it could be the kids getting out of school or students coming home from college.”
"Rappahannock’s 12-percent unemployment rate compared to Fauquier’s at 4.8 percent or even Culpeper at 9.4 percent seems high, but actually compared to Page County, which is hovering around 12, 13 and 14 percent or Page at 10 or 11 percent, it is not out of line,” he said.
“Remember that Rappahannock is a very small county and any change makes a big difference,” he added. Meanwhile the employment skies brightened recently for •Fauquier residents as the jobless rate here dropped to 4.8 percent in June, the lowest that figure has been this year.
