According to data released this week by the Virginia Employment Commission, a total of 28,150 people were employed in the county in June, while 1,415 others were actively seeking work.
This is a marked decrease from May’s 5.6 percent unemployment, when 27,692 residents were employed and 1,655 residents out of work.
For the year, Fauquier County’s unemployment rate peaked in February, with a 7 percent jobless rate — the highest unemployment rate here in over a decade.
While economic sun may be shining over Fauquier, neighboring ju, risdictions have hit the doldrums.
Neighboring Culpeper County had a 9.4 percent jobless rate.
The unemployment rate does not include persons who have given up looking for work or persons on welfare.
DeAnn Lineberry of the Virginia Department of Social Services said that her department has seen a steady increase of applicants for the Food Stamps program over the past three years.
