This Saturday the Fodderstack Road between Flint Hill and Washington will again be the site of the annual Fodderstack 10K Race.

In this 15th running of the race, Jean Lillard, one of the organizers, is hoping for a good turnout. About 110 had pre-registered by last weekend.

Ms. Lillard noted that none of the top three men or women finishers from last year have yet registered, leaving the way open for new winners in the open category. In addition to the open category, there are awards in numerous age groups for both men and women.

When the first Fodderstack race was held in 1979, there were 137 runners. The record number was about 360, she said, but recently the race has been attracting about 250 runners. .

The Inn at Little Washington is again the principal sponsor of the race, donating funds for the T-shirts that are won by the first 250 racers to cross the line. Many other local businesses have made donations to help defray the cost of the trophies. - Virginia Savings Bank of Front Royal is again offering a prize of $300 to anyone who breaks a course record.
