Survivors are his wife Mrs. Dorothy B. Whorton of Culpeper; two sons, George Marshall Whorton Jr. of Reva and Edward F. Whorton of Culpeper; two daughters Mrs. Shirley W. Hope and Mrs. Loretta W. Becker both of Spotsylvania; one brother Harry Whorton of Brandy Station and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 21 at Clore Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marshall Braylo and Rev. William Smith officating.
Interment will be in the Culpeper National Cemetery with full military honors.
Mattie Brooks
Mattie Riley “Kitty” Brooks, 62, of Henderson, N.C. died Sunday, March 28.
A native of Amissville she was the daughter of the late J. Warren and Maggie Mozingo Riley.
Graveside services were held in Sunset Gardens in Henderson.
Surviving are her husband Howard A. Brooks; three sons, H. Michael Brooks of Henderson, David E. Brooks of Middleburg and Gary A. Brooks of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister M. June Weaver of Amissville; a brother Charles T. Riley of Colorado Springs, Colo, and three granddaughters.
Oliver Durant II
Oliver Durant II, 92, of “The Hill”, Boston where he lived his entire live, died Sunday, April 18 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Durant was born Oct. 23. 1900 at “The Hill” son of the late John Griffin and Elizabeth Russel Smith Durant.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Durant was the former Master of the Rappahannock Hunt and The Hazelmere Hounds. He was a well known horseman and opend his farm to all hunters and shared his land with all.
He is preceed in death by his wife Emily Longstreth Schultz Durant.
Survivios include two daughters Mrs. Mary Gertrude Lucas of Essex, Conn, and Mrs. Louisa Perry Jorss of Bethesda, Md.; one nephew John Lee Durant; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is Mabel Kennedy, a caretaker for the past eight years.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 22 at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Vance Mann officating.
