In Rappahannock County many C&P customers in the Amissville and Castleton areas have Culpeper exchanges. Many of the 854 signatures collected in favor of having the ballot were collected at Hackley’s Store in Amissville.
The ballots were mailed out at the end of last week. Customers must return them by mid-June. If the ballot measure passes in both Culpeper and Warrenton, customers with 8-2-5, 9-3-7, 2-6-2, 3-9-9, 5-4-7, and 8-2-9 exchange numbers will be able to call 3-4-7, 3-4-1, 3-4-9, and 27-0 exchanges in Warrenton.
“If you call Warrenton just once a month for seven minutes, it’s cheaper to have ELS than pay daytime rates,” Mrs. Lacey said. “As the average customer makes 2.8 calls per month, most customers would benefit from the new service. There are a lot of people with friends and family in Warrenton. Some are even paying to call their neighbors.”
The flat rate for businesses would increase by $8.04 per month with ELS, but Mrs. Lacey believes businesses will also support ELS. “They will effectively double their customer base,” she said.
