Sealing the Envelope

A house’s thermal envelope includes its roof, walls, windows and doors, insulation (ceiling, walls, floors over unconditioned crawl spaces), ventilation, and caulking, weather-stripping — everything that separates the inside from the outside. Each of these elements directly affects your house’s heating and cooling loads — as well as its comfort, quiet, and overall value.
