Action from Stage 5 will be featured in an ESPN broadcast at 6:30 p.m. EDT on May 10. There will be half-hour broadcasts each day of the race, with hour shows on the first and final days of the race.
“ESPN is really warming up to the event,” Brunner said. “We’ve graduated to the next level of importance in their eyes.”
CBS will telecast a program of Tour DuPont highlights on Sunday, May 23 at 2 p.m. EDT.
This is the fifth year for the event, which began as the Tour De Trump. This is the third year the cycling race has been sponsored by DuPont, a chemicals and technology company founded in 1903.
According to one study, sponsorship of the cycling event is worth $83 million annually to DuPont. That’s one reason the company has signed a new agreement that could keep them affiliated with the race through at least the year 2000.
