Over 25 concerned citizens attended the Washington Town Council meeting last week, which was the largest audience for a council meeting in over a year.
After much discussion, the council approved a policy for rental of the Town Hall.
The Town Hall will not be rented out, however, until the septic system is checked out; the liability regarding open flames, such as candles, is discussed with the insurance company; and ADA regulations regarding handicapped access are looked into.
Also, the policy is open to amendment by the present members of the council, or new members elected to the council, who will begin their new terms July 1.
One of the most discussed items was the number of people who will be allowed in the Town Hall at one time. It was decided that 70 persons would be allowed for theatre-style seating, 50 persons for reception-style seating and 35 persons for dinner-style seating. These numbers are less than numbers allowed for maximum occupancy by the BOCA and Virginia Fire Codes. ,
The hours available for rental will be 9 a.m. through 11 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; from 9 a.m. through midnight on Fridays
