To the Editor:

I read a letter to the editor the other day from an out-of-state supporter of Oliver North. He was vigorously defending Oliver North’s "telling a white life lie to a blackguard, lying bunch of politicians in Washington.”

The reason he supports Oliver North is the reason I am against Oliver North. A candidate for public service should not himself be the main focus in a campaign, rather the candidate should be merely the vehicle to put a focus on th$ issues he hopes to press once elected.

Regardless of whether or not one believes Mr. North was justified in , his actions toward Congress, his candidacy and his term in office would always be characterized by he being the issue rather than by the issues he may support.
