Mayor Morehouse said, 1 am really happy with them. The Town Council has done a really good job on that, maybe the best job in the town’s history* It was evident in the meeting last week that people have been educated about the zoning in this town.”
When asked if he thought the presence of The Inn is good or bad for the town and why, Mayor Morehouse responded, “The Inn is good for the town and the town is good for The Inn. They provide employment. They are the most charitable organization that I know of in the county. The tax base now saves each home in town about $1,300 a year, and it comes from the meals and lodging tax. That money comes primarly from outside the community. It has allowed us to create a real conservative financial plan for the town. The Inn is a world class restaurant and I am not sure many of us appreciate that.”
Regarding his residency here, Mayor Morehouse said, “It is a parttime job and I am a part-time resident. My heart is in Washington as well as my commitment to the town which is displayed by the countless hours and time I spend each month on the town. I spend at least ten hours a week on town business, and I am doing all the administration for the water system. The budget for the town has gone from $13,000 to $130,000 and I think that is quite an accomplishment. The town has $71,000 in the bank.”
