He said he could easily eat all the peaches himself that some trees will produce. He added that later varieties of peaches seem to be doing better than the earlier varieties.
He said that it is still too early to tell, since some blossoms may look all right but still be damaged. He said it will be necessary to see how many peaches remain on the trees when the fruit is around 15 milimeters long, since damaged fruit can drop even after it starts to form.
Leon Hutchinson has some peach and nectarine trees at his house on Jenkins mountain. He also takes care of the peach trees in the orchard owned by the Blue Rock Inn across from the high school. In both places the trees seem to be doing very well, he said.
