... Benjamin Ryan Richards, 84, of Washington, D.C. and Sperryville, a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force, died at the Washington Pospice of cancer on Tuesday, April .19.
Before and following World War II,. he was a Stock Exchange Customer’s Broker with ttarris-Upham and Company in New York City and Pallas, Texas. In New York, he was also active in Troop E, Squadron A and the 101st Cavalry. ' During World War II he served as a Statistical Control Officer in the "325th Reconnaissance Wing of the 8th Air Force at High Wycombe, England.
In 1948, at the time of the Berlin Airlift, he was recalled to military duty, serving as a Budget Offiver. His assignments included three ..years in die Far Eastern Air Force Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War, four years in the Military Air Transport Service , at Travis Air Force Base, California during its reorganization into a selfsupporting command and five years in the Landsoutheast Headquarters -of-NATO in Izmir, Turkey, where he was the Budget Officer of the 6th Allied Tactical Air Force Wing.
His decorations include six Battle Stars from World War II, two Bronze Stars from the Korean War and the highest award given by NATO. * • After retirement from the military, he served from 1966 to 1977 as an Administrative Officer in the Department of State in Washington, D.C. ' He was bom in Derby, England, educated in Edinborough, Scotland, Shefford, Bedfordshire, England and Montreal, Canada, finishing With a B.S. in Military Science from the University of Maryland and with ' a graduate degree in International Affairs from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. - He was a member of the Diplomatic and Consular Retired Officers ■Club (DACOR) of Washington, D.C., of the Argyle Country Club of ■ Silver Spring, Md., of the Ex-Members Association of Squadron A of New York City and of the Annuncia- taon Church of Washington, D.C. ‘ Survivors include his of 53 years
