Remember Sandler and Young, the velvet-voiced duo-one singer, Belgian, the other, American-who were a hit on network TV shows and in nightclubs between the late ‘60s and early ‘80s? One of them is still singing, and he will be a highlight of the next Community Concert Association season.
Tony Sandler (bom Lucien Joseph Santele in Flanders, Belgium) will be at the Culpeper County High School auditorium at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 singing songs of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. Sandler, whose former partner, Ralph Young, retired in 1983, will appear with guest singers and an ensemble headed by pianist-composer Greg Theisen.
Community Concert Association members always get a great deal for their dues, but next season offers what may be their biggest bargain ever. Sandler’s performance will be the second of six in the Culpeper auditorium for the CCA’s 25th season. The CCA, which customarily offers four Culpeper concerts and this season is presenting five, will celebrate its silver anniversary with a “six for the silver” theme but will not increase dues.
