The race for the Virginia seat in the U.S. Senate will provide all the mud slinging the electorate can take in one year. We do not need any more in Washington’s election for the Town Council. 1 r
In the slightly less than two weeks left before the election we hope the candidates and their supporters will concentrate on their dreams and hopes for the town’s future and the reasons they support one or more candidates.
We hope they can keep their reasons for not supporting other candidates to themselves.
We believe that all of these candidates, at the most basic level, want what they perceive as best for the town. We are satisfied that none of them pose a threat to the town’s fiscal health. i
We consider the effort to discredit Ms. van Dort disgraceful. Let’s have no more of this sort of thing. (
REC's Powerline
“It’s fun to win one once in a while.”
That is what County Administrator John McCarthy said leaving the press conference called by the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative to announce that REC would not pursue a new power line route from Sperryville to its Rixeyville substation. ^
We agree with him.
Organized opposition by the Board of Supervisors, affected landowners and county environmental groups caused REC to choose instead to take power from Potomac Edison at the Hazel Switch in Culpeper County.
Rappahannock citizens have been spared the sight of another electric transmission line running through some of the county’s loveliest land.
We are particularly fortunate that Piedmont District supervisor “Pete” Estes is familiar with electric utilities generally and the specific history of electric power in Rappahannock County. He knew of the Hazel switch and was able to suggest it as an alternative source of power.
