In a meet held last Wednesday at Bleu Rock, the cross country team placed second with 36 points, just behind the winning Page County team, which had 34 points. Clarke finished with 61 points.
Once again, Mark Jenkins and Eddie Sause finished first and second in the meet. Mark’s time was 17:47, and Eddie’s was 17:54.
Finishing seventh was Jeff Atkins at 19:07; Mike Wolfe was 12th at 19:50; Chilean exchange student Ozzie Villar was 14th at 20:21; R.J. White was 15th, Ray Atkins 16th, and Jason Brown 18th.
Caroline Baumgardner finished high up again, in fourth place for the girls with a time of 23:30.
The Bull Run District meet was to be held at Stonewall Jackson on Oct. 26.
The girls’ basketball teams had another unsuccessful week on the court. On Oct. 18, Stonewall Jackson defeated the junior varsity team 3313. Dawn Havstad was high scorer with six points, and Erica Beaver had four.
The varsity team also lost to Stonewall Jackson, with a dismal score of 19-77.
Coach Laura Conklin said that Kylene Wolfe had an excellent game, scoring seven points and seven rebounds. She said that Stonewall Jackson is one of the top teams in the district and has three players who are 6T tall. RCHS’s tallest player is 5’9‘.
The games against Strasburg which were scheduled to be held last Thursday were cancelled due to the officials not showing up. That game has been rescheduled for this Monday night, and will be played at home. «
