use a limited numper ot species in the foundation planting. Some variation is form and texture is important, but avoid numerous different types, or mixtures of evergreen and deciduous shrubs. Select varieties which will be of suitable size when mature. Avoid placing large shrubs under windows. Unless they are frequently pruned they can grow too tall and block the window.
The height of shrubs along the front of the house is important. Locate tall shrubs at the comers, and shorter ones on each side of the front door. This will have the effect of funneling attention on the entrance.
Be prepared to renew or imporve your landscaping periodically. Most shrubs need to be replaced with younger, more desirable specimens' about every 15 to 20 years.
