Sen. Charles Robb is facing his first difficult election campaign. He seems almost shell shocked. We hope he will come out with a more vigorous effort in the last two weeks.
As governor Sen. Robb managed without raising taxes to bring Virginia teacher salaries from near the bottom of states to near the average. Unfortunately since that time salaries in Virginia have slipped behind again. Women and minority citizens made large gains during his tenure. Whatever he may or may not have been doing in Virginia Beach during those years, in general his governorship was marked With civility completely missing from the current political climate.
Since going to the U.S. Senate Charles Robb has worked to promote good legislation. He is a fiscal conservative and,* social liberal. He believes in balancing the federal budget, not in sloganeering about the issue. He has not sought glory by sponsoring legislation but has instead tried to work within the system to improve legislation that comes before the Senate. We feel he deserves another term.
