Shiloh Baptist Association, composed of 32 Southern Baptist Churches in Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties will have its 200th annual meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oak Park, Madison County. Due to the inability to hold meetings during the Civil War, this meeting occurs in the 203rd year of the Association, which was founded in 1791.
Usual business will be transacted, including reports from the Officers, Councils, and Committee on the work of the last year. Dr Randall Robinson, Executive Director of the Virginia Baptist Homes, Inc., will be a featured speaker.
An historical observance will be a significant part of the meeting and will include the singing of hymns “lined out” in the tradition of 200 y^ars ago. One of the hymns, “Broad is the Road that Leads to Death” was sung by Virginia ministers John Waller, Lewis Craig and James Childs in 1768 on the way to Fredericksburg jail after their trail for preaching without a license from the established church.
Historical persons from Shiloh’s past will appear during the program, including Elijah Craig (1743-1803; representing the 18th Centrey, Silas Bruce (1804-1884) representing the 19th Centurey, E.W. Winfrey (18581931), representing the lat 19th Centurey and early 20th Century, and Mrs. J. Frank Jones (1884-1961) representing 50 years of women’s work on behalf of missions- in the 20th Century. They will be portrayed by Joti Heddleston, interim pastor of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church
