With winter approaching, motorists need to take special care to avoid ending up broken down beside the road, or suffering engine damage due to temperature extremes.
Winter driving conditions can be very demanding. Keep these suggestions in mind when venturing out this winter:
• Vision: clear snow and ice from windows, mirrors, hood, roof headlights, and trunk. Clean the headlights of road grime daily. You’d be surprised how much difference that will make!
• Speed: normal posted speed limits are for ideal driving conditions. Slow down when when visibility or road surface conditions begin to deteriorate. When starting off, accelerate carefully so that your wheels don’t spin. Avoid sudden starts and stops.
• Braking: don’t brake hard. If you have anti-lock brakes, this will help; otherwise, use firm pressure on the brake pedal to a point just short of lock-up, then ease off the pedal . slightly.
