pected soon again, the structures do not look substantially constructed. There are two unlikely plaster cast, yellow and black, grinning tigers guarding the way to the principal temple. Inside this building is brilliant with painted figures and banners. One monk chaperoned us as we strolled around. The ceiling in places reaches up three floors and perhaps because it was empty of worshippers, in spite of lavish and colorfiil decorations of all sorts, it is subdued in spirit. Several small white stupas are located among the seemingly recently erected and minimal-in-character auxiliary monastery buildings.
One of our group asked me what I thought as we walked away. The question stemmed from the foreignness a Westerner feels in the presence of Tibetan Buddhism. I said
