The finance committee will meet this week to make recommendations on library investments. The board members asked to have reports on income on outside investments reported on a fiscal year rather than calendar year basis.
Grace Sims said the policy committee had not met in several months. She said there had been complaints of too much loud talking in the library. The board adopted a policy stating, “The Rappahannock County Library Board is committed to providing a quiet environment for reading and study. Staff and patrons are asked to speak quietly and to keep personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum. ” /
Several board members said such a policy should not be necessary but admitted they themselves were sometimes guilty of talking too loudly.
Ed Barton, president of the Friends of the Rappahannock Library, said when he came to the library to prepare the mailing for the Friends annual request for funds, he noticed a group of people who came by bicycle and had to leave the bicycles all over the lawn. He said someone suggested a bicycle rack for the library. The board members enthusiastically endorsed the idea and asked Mr. Barton if he could arrange for the Friends to donate it.
