She said that what appealed to her about the position in Rappahannock is that as the librarian in a small public library she can do a variety of jobs every day, “wear several hats,” she said.
Of her new job, Mrs. Holmes said, “I’m looking forward to it. I hope we can get everybody in Rappahannock County to use the library. It’s a wonderful resource.”
The Library board voted to offer the position to Mrs. Holmes following an executive session last Thursday.
At that meeting chairman William Young said the library now has nine computers, three Macintosh and six IBM compatible. He said they have not all been installed and decisions still have to be made on where to place them and how to make the Internet accessible to the public. He said they could move stacks in the reference section closer together to make room for study carrels on the back wall.
He said progress is being made on getting cartons of books in the basement onto shelves.
Treasurer Helen Platt reported that at the end of the first quarter of the budget more than one quarter of funds had been spent. She said that salaries had run over and electricity had run over. She said she expected the salary line to stabilize once positions are filled. Electricity has run nearly $500 per month, she said, but
