mieson suggested the board reconsider its recently adopted personnel policy. She said the Library Board rather than the librarian should be responsible for hiring the assistant librarian and that the grievance procedure should allow for both parties to appear before the personnel committee.
Roberta Anderson said the policy had not been in effect very long and should be given longer to work before it is changed.
Mrs. Jamieson said there are only two or three things that need changing, but she felt with only three part-time employees the library did not need such a bureaucratic structure. “We can still be personal and have solutions that fit the individual case,” she said. The board should not receive all its information only from the librarian, she added. She said the board needs an assistant librarian who can think for herself. “When one person hires, evaluates, judges, all you, are is a gofer. We want an assistant librarian,” she said.
Mrs. Jamieson’s suggestions were referred to the personnel committee.
The personnel committee met Tuesday morning and decided some revisions in the personnel policy may be needed, but the issue will require further study. They decided to readvertise the assistant’s position because so much time has passed since the job was originally advertised.
