“We are about success,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Gangel, quoting Vince Lombardi, at the beginning of Adult Education Night at RCHS last Thursday evening.
He said that the school system is dedicated to continuous improvement. As the only certainty today is change, he said, the schools need to continually upgrade in order to be productive.
Even when adults have finished school, whether it be high school, college or graduate work, there is always something else to learn. The adult ed classes held last Thursday evening, organized by Volunteer Coordinator Jan Makela, offered a wide variety of subjects for those who attended.
Fifteen classes were held around the high school, each for one-half hour. Subjects ranged from flower drying procedures to beginning drawing techniques, a basic introduction to computers, animal care and do’s and don’ts for beginning investors.
Nearly all classes were taught by Rappahannock residents. Attorney Douglas Baumgardner offered “Simple Do It Yourself Legal Procedures,” in which he briefly discussed writing your own will. He said that books are available which can guide one through the will-writing procedure. As wills can be very complicated, he said that people can draft their own will, using a guide book, but it is a good idea to have an attorney look it over to make sure it is done correctly.
