those 670 area agencies on aging that have served the elderly in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties with services such as nutrition programs, transportation, in-home services, job training and legal assistance. This network has made a huge difference in people’s lives. Today, there are 33 million living Americans who have reached age 65. Their poverty rate is half of what is was.
The elderly are the fastest growing segment of our population. Almost one million elderly live in Virginia; the 19,000 older persons living in this region are served by the Community Services Board in a variety of ways.
