The best essay will earn the author $200; $100 for second best and $50 for third. The 10 best “runners up” will be given special DARE awards, all presentations to be made at an awards assembly.
A panel of literary judges will include Jon Heddleston, Breezy Gannon, Bob Scott, and Emerson Williams after entries have first been screened by the Capt. Brown.
The Lions Club has regularly supported the DARE program from the annual project budget. If this new idea succeeds in stimulating young people to become DARE advocates, the Lions would use 'additional memorial donations and matching funds specifically designated for this purpose only.
