The RCHS softball team ended the season on a high note, winning the last two games.
Last Tuesday they" defeated Manassas Park 4-3. Coach Carl Payne reported that Manassas Park took a 10 lead in the first inning, and the Panthers tied the score in the top of the second inning. Then Rappahannock got three more runs in the fourth inning and took a 4-1 lead. Manassas Park got two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but that ended the scoring.
Kylene Wolfe got the win on the mound. Coach Payne said she “pitched extremely well. Our defense was fine. We only had two errors.”
The Panther squad got 11 hits. Kiersten and Cari Kerr had three hits each. Other hits were made by Emily Taylor, Angie Atkins, Margo Haynes, Katy Paratore and Kylene Wolfe.
Then on Wednesday, in another away game in almost constant rain, the Panthers defeated George Mason 21-19. Angie Atkins led the hitting with three hits, one a triple. Kiersten Kerr, Courtney Welch, Margo Haynes and Cari Kerr had two hits each, and Kylene Wolfe had a home run.
Although he will lose two seniors who started this year, in Cari Kerr and Courtney Welch, Coach Payne is optimistic about next year. He sees three very strong juniors returning as Senior starters, several sophomores who will be returning and a gro"up of ninth graders who have made tremendous improvement this year. “We have a very talented team,” he said. “I’m really looking
