Hill reported that his vineyard got hit by the frost, but that it was not too bad over the whole vineyard. He estimates that 50 percent of his vines have some damage, but like most other vineyard owners, said it will be later on before he really knows the extent of the damage.
At another vineyard in Flint Hill owned by the Johanssen family and, managed by Jim Law of Linden Vineyards, the vines suffered some damage. It was a typical frost, said Mr. Law, where low lying areas get hit and the ones higher up are okay.
“We don’t know the extent of the damage yet,” he said, but noted that the frost did burn the very tender shoot tips of mostly Chardonnay. He said the temperature dipped just enough to do damage in the six acre vineyard.
