The frost which hit the county last week will cut down the production at several county vineyards this year.
Gray Ghost vineyard in. Amissville owned by Cheryl and A1 Kellert seems to have been hit the hardest. Mrs. Kellert said that she estimates 50 percent of their Chardonnay shoots have been lost, though the rest of their nine acre crop, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Vidal and - Seyval seem to be undamaged.
“It is the last frost I have seen around here,” she said. The tempera„ ture at their vineyard dropped to 30 degrees. The morning after the frost she had gone out to the vineyard to check it, and said that even by midday the shoots looked okay, but by the i afternoon the shoots had collapsed.
