Edwin Eastham Jr.
Dr. Edwin Marion Eastham Jr. 80, of Front Royal died Wednesday, May 15 in Warren Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Eastham was born May 4, 1916, in Flint Hill, the son of Edwin M. and Frances Pullen Eastham. He was a general practitioner in Warren and Rappahannock Counties for 42 years.
During his career, he served as Medical Examiner for Warren and Rappahannock Counties for over 20 years and had also served as Chief of Medicine and President of the medical staff at Warren Memorial Hospital.
Upon his retirement in 1988, and editorial in the Warren Sentinel said of Dr. Eastham, “... Dr. Eastham was a family practitioner in every sense of the world. He delivered babies, treated them, their parents, and their grandparents. He made house calls, rode in the ambulance with his patients when necessary, or if there was not time for an ambulance, took the patient to the hospital himself. There were no nine-to-five office hours or five day weeks for Dr. Eastham. His office overflowed, and often there was no break between morning, afternoon, and evening hours. He still found time, however, to make his hospital ... Dr. Eastham has served Warren County for more than four decades, and his patients will testify, he has served it well.”
Dr. Eastham was graduated from George Washington University and received his Doctor of Medicine from G. W. Medical School, Washington, D.C. in 1943. He served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.
