gala open house

The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department, Company 3, will celebrate National Fire Prevention Week with a gala Open House from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Volunteers outfitted in full firefighting gear will demonstrate the tools and techniques of their craft, from automobile extrication, to search and rescue operations and rappelling.
There will be free fire safety literature, souvenirs for the kids, and refreshments. The fire company is also spotlighting its free smoke detector and battery check program, sponsored by Branch Electric of Warrenton.
Amissville Fire Chief J.B. Carter said, “National Fire Prevention Week is the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire. Our goal is to raise community awareness of the role of our fire and rescue volunteers,” and to increase sensitivity to what it takes to do the job.
Featured are displays, blood pressure testing, and surveys to evaluate community needs for citizen training, such as CPR.
Teen members of newly-formed Boy Scout Explorer Post 350 will lend a hand, serving as guides and posing as victims in the demos.
