“Big Daddy” Garlits. He talks about cars of special interest on racing shows and has also written several books on the subject. In addition, he writes an automotive advice column.
He built and raced 34 custom dragsters with a top speed of 287.81 mph. Garlits has raced over 5,000 runs down the quarter mile with speeds over 200 mph. For that, he held the National Hot Rod Association’s Official World Record at 271.08 mph. He has won 144 national and 17 world championships and along the way has earned more than $6 million in race earnings.
