First came a bedroom, bath and deck; second the family room and kitchen. Then with the help of contractor, Greg Foster, they built a whole new wing with two more bedrooms and a bath.
Developing the farm has been a family affair. Their son, David, and his friend, Tim Robinson, found a cabin built in 1840 in Danville. It was purchased; each board was marked and moved next to the main house where it was rebuilt and now is a charming guest house. The young men also built the bam.
The Semmes’ daughter, Stratton, a landscape architect, designed each section of the gardens. David Semmes is the official hole digger while his wife is planter and weeder. The latest addition is the rose garden near the Japanese tea house by the pool.
When one sits on one of the multi-level decks, the view —complete with tea house, gardens, and the horses grazing on the hillside — is simply spectacular.
