Approximately 250 Rappahannock County Elementary School students in grades 4, 5 and 6 will travel to Madison County on Monday, Oct. 13 to join children from Madison, Orange and Culpeper schools for a live performance by the Blue Ridge Community Orchestra.
The concert will feature “Master Peter’s Puppet Show,” a 20th century chamber opera setting by composer Manuel de Falla based on an episode in Miguel Cervantes’ literary classic, “Don Quixote de la Mancha.”
Late last spring, Madison County Public Schools Superintendent Tbm Campbell contacted Rappahannock Superintendent David Gangel about the upcoming event.
Gangel in turn called on the Curriculum Enrichment Program to help fund and coordinate this activity for Rappahannock students. CEP, an all volunteer group working cooperatively with the schools, sponsors live professional programs from across the curriculum and is chiefly supported by contributions from parents and the community.
While the actual cost of production exceeds $10 per child, schools are being asked to cover only $5 per students. At RCES, participants will be asked for a one-half contribution ($2.50) and curriculum
