After suffering a grave loss last year due to an incident of arson and grand larceny at Stuart Field in Amissville, the Rappahannock Athletic Association has been working toward rebuilding its facility.
RAA president Fred Naramore said they have managed to raise $13,000 so far, which does not include promises of building materials such as lumber, concrete, cinder block, windows, security doors and other equipment which is needed.
The Manassas Park Little League donated over 100 batting helmets along with bases and catching equipment for eight or nine catchers. They also donated three lime machines. “Some helmets we couldn’t use because they were painted but the donation they made is very, very generous,” Naramore said.
Work to rebuild the concession stand and equipment building is slated to begin soon. The group has talked with the county administrator and are waiting for the okay on the plans from the county building inspector’s office. Once they get the okay they hope to start immediately, if the weather cooperates. The first step would be to start excavation and pour the footers.
The organization plans to put about $7,000 of the funds raised, plus the donated materials, into rebuilding what will be a combined concession stand and storage facility. It will include the concession stand, an umpire’s room, storage room and a small meeting room upstairs.
The building will be cinderblock on the first floor, will have fire coat sheet rock on the the first floor and will have security doors.
At a later date they will build a small storage and field equipment building.
