Where will funds come from
to meet proposed expansion needs?
The proposed addition to Rappahannock High
School, based on minimal expansion needs as
outlined by superintendent of schools Dr. David Gangel and the Rappahannock County School Board Strategic Planning Subcommittee, will no doubt translate into a future series of tax hikes for county citizens unless the school board and the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors can find other areas of the school budget, or county budget, to cut from.
However, with the new requirements set for the Standards of Learning finding ways to make cuts will no doubt be more difficult than ever. It will necessitate creative scheduling and hard choices about what the county’s schools will be able to offer in addition to what they will be required to offer.
Residents need to get involved. Attend the school board meetings and let your voice be heard. The meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. From January to June they are held at Rappahannock Elementary School and from July to December they are held at Rappahannock High School.
