The JV team is 2/0 in the district now after their comanding victory over Manassas Park Monday night 15/6 and 15/7. They are 5/4 overall said Maeyer.
On Friday the junior varsity fought hard and won their first game against Brentsville 15/13. In game two they ran way with it and clobbered Brentsville 15/5. Amanda Walters and Summmer Alexander served the first 7 and 5 straight points, respectively in the second game.
Brentsville came on strong Friday with their serves and quickly made it 10/5 in the first varsity game. The lady Panthers kept fighting but couldn’t turn the game around and seemed to loose concentration after team member Megan Fairbrother injured her ankle.
Varsity coach Laura Conklin said the team “was just not focused and they weren’t up for the game. They do not play their best at home. They play much better on the road.”
Conklin said Fairbrother twisted her ankle and it seems to be okay (as of this week).
In game two of the varsity competition Rappahannock fought back against Brentsville and pulled ahead at one point 7/5. Brentsville regained the lead after a series where the serve went back and forth without much headway made by either side and the score was 10/8.
Although both teams struggled, in the end Brentsville managed to win 10/15.
Conklin said they should have been ready but weren’t and so they lost their first district game against a tough competitor.
