We all have recipes that we promise ourselves we will try soon and the stack continues to get higher and higher. Winter is the perfect time to pull out some of those recipes and treat yourself to something different. This week we received a column from the Virginia Egg Council on not only what quiche is but also some favorite recipes. We encourage you to try one or more.

This year with Valentine’s Day on Saturday no one has an excuse not to fix Saturday morning breakfast and if you are not sure what to serve for breakfast or brunch, then these quiche dishes are for you! They combine all the favorites into one dish.

Quiche is a classic French favorite. A basic quiche is a custard tart filled with bacon, cheese or a combination of the two. However, today’s quiches take on a variety of different ingredients and crusts to make the combinations endless.

Quiches are perfect for today’s busy lifestyles. They are economical not only in cost but in time to prepare. A basic quiche recipe is: six eggs, one cup of milk, two cups of filling and a 9-inch pie crust. All ingredients are simply mixed together and poured into the pie crust and baked at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes. No doubt about it, this is one of the fastest and most versatile recipes!
