Tax season is right around the comer and there is free tax assistance on the way for Rappahannock County residents.
Low income families and individuals and those 60 and over can take advantage of the free income tax assistance sites opening in February. Last tax season and this year as well the Rappahannock Library is the place where people could get tneir tax returns reviewed and completed by trained volunteers.
The program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, American Association of Retired Persons and Virginia Cooperative Extension. Volunteers attend a four day training and must successfully complete an exam by the IRS.
In Rappahannock County, the library site will be open to complete federal and state returns on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the library at 6753780 to make an appointment to get your tax return completed. Be sure to bring your 1997 tax package and label, all W-2 and 1099 forms, last year’s tax return and deduction and credit information.
