Gangel said that many of the classes added and changes in class size at RCHS have caused critical current space needs there and teachers must often use common areas, such as the cafeteria, for planning purposes. The new SOL will also necessitate adjustments. He said in the last 10 years enrollment has been steadily growing and that coupled with the increase in courses and the future requirements for the SOL the high school must be expanded.
He informed the board that an architect is coming up to look at the issue of the use of space versus the need for space at RCHS. At RCHS there are currently 26 English sections, 19 social studies sections, 25 math sections, 21 science sections, 11 foreign language sections, 12 business sections, 12 physical education sections, 12 technology sections, two band sections, two chorus sections, two art sections and two culinary sections.
