Lee and Diana Bird, also county residents, spoke strongly against expansion. “On the one hand,” Lee Bird commented, “we strive for little change and yet want amenities that will change (the town) and cannot even be accommodated in the available space.” Tbwn resident Mitzi Young said that “if you increase the internal population of the town, it would increase problems (because more people) would be intensely living elbow-to-elbow.”

One of the most revealing exercises of the evening involved “dot voting.” Herd passed out 10 green and four red dots to each attendee and instructed them to paste one green dot next to each of the paragraphs on the wall they agreed with and to use the red dots for paragraphs they “absolutely could not live with.”
