If you don’t do it for a living you may not be aware of the special techniques involved in cooking for a large group of people. It’s scary to think about people getting sick from a meal but it cari happen. Don’t take a chance! Sign up for the “Safe Food for the Occasional quantity Cook” workshop. Learn to protect yourself and the people you feed.
The course also includes the local temporary permit process and what is required. Those that successfully complete the course will receive a certificate to post at your event and expedite the on site inspection process.
Educators from Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Department of Health team tech the course. Two six hour classes are being offered in Fauquier and the surrounding area.
The Fauquier course will be held Monday May 4 and 7 from 9:30 to 12:30 at the Fauquier Extension Office, 24 Pelham Street, Warrenton, 341-7950 ext.ll.
On April 27 and 30 from 6 to 9 another course will be held at the Rappahannock County Library, 4 Library Road, Washington, 675-3619. There is a $10 text fee, one text fee per organization. Cqll the numbers listed for registration information.

Tax season is right around the corner and there is free tax assistance on the way for Rappahannock County residents.
Low income families and individuals and those 60 and over can take advantage of the free income tax assistance sites opening in February.
Last tax season and this year as well the Rappahannock Library is the place where people could get their tax returns reviewed and completed by trained volunteers.
The program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, American Association of Retired Persons and Virginia Cooperative Extension. Volunteers attend a four day training and must successfully complete an exam by the IRS. Volunteers are then placed in sites around the community.
They are called VTTA/TCE sites which stand for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Tax Counseling for the Elderly. The sites open in February and operate until April 15.
In Rappahannock County, the library site, 4 Library Road will be open to complete federal and state returns on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Call the library at 6753780 to make an appointment to get your tax return completed. Be sure to bring your 1997 tax package and label, all W-2 and 1099 forms, last year’s tax return and deduction and credit information.
