ties of Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism. Each received a special certificate, a Good Citizen pin and a $50 check.
The four so honored were: Holly Susan Settle from Culpeper County High School, Megan Renee Jones from Madison County High School, Ashleigh G. Cannon from Rappahannock County High School and Lindsay Alexandra Knight from the Wakefield Country Day School.
After each received her medal, the senior read her essay on “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility to Preserve It., written without notes within a two hour frame of time.
Mrs. John Marshall Cheatwood, Chairman of the American History Month Committee, presented the Bronze Medal to David Massie, an eighth grade student at Rappahannock High School. The subject for the contest was Forts in American History.
David chose Fort Donelson in Northern Tennessee, the capture of which by Union forces in the Civil War was crucial to opening up the Mississippi River area. He received the Bronze Medal, a special certificate and a check for $25. After receiving his award, David read his paper.
After the awards were given, Mrs. Kilby congratulated all the students and their families and invited all to partake of the tea and refreshments.
The next meeting will be a trip with details to be furnished later.
