Ginny and Don Spoon of Winterberry Gardens are currently under contract to renowned horticultural publishers Timber Press for the "definitive” book on bearded irises, will make available a grand grouping of their miniature and reblooming irises. (Although a prior commitment will prevent the Spoons’ attendance, they will be ably represented by their son-in-law, the noted sculptor Tomas Fernandez, who will display examples of his garden sculptures along with the irises.) And Charlene Breeden of Breeden’s Plant House will send a large selection of herbs, perennials, annuals, vegetables, and the intensely flavored Alpine strawberries. Guild and local Garden Club members will share a variety of plants from their own gardens, and Merrill Strange is making a number of cachepots especially for the sale. Mary Ann Sites of Garden of Earth has donated a number of perennials to the sale. Finally, to help gardeners put it all together, Adrian Higgins, distinguished garden writer for The Washington Post and author of The Secret Gardens of Georgetown will offer copies of his new garden guide to the Washington area (provided that the promised mid-April publishing date is met) and will be happy to sign copies of both it and his earlier book.
