Chris Williams of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office has been promoted to the rank of captain and will take over the position formerly held by Major Rick MacWelch as of April 1.
Sheriff Gary T. Settle said, “I’ve been dealing with the vacancy left by Rick MacWelch since about the first of the year. I took about a month to reanalyze the department. Chris expressed an interest in the position and I put him in the position as an interim on March 1. He is a 10 year veteran and is from the county. He knows the people here and what makes things ‘click.’ With his drive and work ethic, I think he is exactly what we need to go forward with what we want to do.”
Williams said he did express his interest in the position to Settle. “I’m goal oriented and have heen fortunate enough to reach this goal this early on in my career. The job is different than what I had been doing. I’ve found it requires quite a bit more paperwork than
