packaging, cut off any damaged or dead parts to prevent decay organisms from becoming active, water if needed, and place in indirect light. If the weather is freezing, do not put the plants outdoors. Instead place them in a shelter or garage where the temperature will not fall below 40F.
If the air temperature is above freezing, bare-root plants may be held one or two days in a shaded, cool spot.
